"Once Upon a Time"
I have decided to do this painting with a monochromatic color scheme. I felt this approach is rather suitable to the subject. The monochromatic scheme is not using one color and white. In order to keep the color harmony I need to use quite a few colors. I want to research more into this color scheme.

Calligraphy update -- writing brut
One of the sources that I keep returning to for calligraphy inspiration is a book by Denise Lach. She includes several gorgeous compositions written with a pipette or a coke-can pen, writing instruments that deliberately sacrifice control for serendipity. I love that kind of art, so I've been trying to get something good with my own crude implements.
I have a coke-can pen, made with a curved piece of a coke can wrapped around a tongue depresser. The necks of my ink bottles are too narrow to let me dip this pen, so I fill it with the eye droppers. When the pen goes in certain directions it sputters and produces the most beautiful irregular lines, but in other directions the line has no character at all. Also the pen runs out of ink too fast, so I'm always having to refill it, after which I get a long passage of too-fat, too-black writing.

I have been using a small coffee-stirrer straw as my pipette substitute, dipping it into the ink and holding a finger on top of the straw to keep it from all running out in a huge blob. As with the coke-can pen, I can sometimes get beautiful stuttery lines, but they are outnumbered and overpowered by the just plain blah, too-black letters.

"1914 Case"
One of those ranch painting days, I found this old tractor in Christoval. It is quite unique; it has a steam engine. I had so much fun painting it. I was told that the owner of this machine found this old clunker abandoned somewhere in Texas wilderness. He disassembled it and shipped all the pieces back to his home in Christoval. He put it back together. Moreover, he made it run again. I myself really admire those handy people who can do almost anything.
This painting is still available

"Old Diesel" --- Sold
This is another painting I did on the En Plein Air Texas. It was very windy day. My easel has tipped over a few times. My Gamsol container flipped on my palette and got stuck in my fresh paint... what a mess it was. But I like this painting.

"Block One in the Rain" --- Sold
This is my first "Artists' Choice" award from a major plein air painting competition. I am so happy I have reached this milestone. It is a great honor to be recognized by my fellow artists. I began painting about 20 years ago. At that time, I consider art just as an hobby. I have received so many peoples' support. On my art journey, I did run into difficulties, but so many peoples warmed my heart with encouragement. Thank you, my fellow artists, from the bottom of my heart.
