Cinderella wins again

I've written before about what I call my Cinderella quilt, the one that got rejected from Quilt National three years ago, then never even made it out in public for more than a year.  I was so proud of this quilt, but for a while I thought it would never get off my stair railing.  Finally it was accepted into a show sponsored by Surface Design Association and won best in show.  I felt vindicated.

Crazed 16: Suburban Dream

Since then it has been out and about a few times in small shows, and last month was selected for the 22nd Annual Juried Art Exhibit at the Jasper Arts Center in Jasper IN.  The show opened last week, and Cinderella is once again best in show!

The best thing about this award is that it's not a fiber show but an all-mediums show.  Much as it's delightful to do well in a fiber show, it's even better to beat out the paintings, the sculptures, the photographs.  These precious moments give me hope that fiber can actually have a presence in the Big Art World!

And if you find yourself driving through southwestern Indiana, make a little detour to Jasper and check out the show.  It runs through September 28.
